Peter Steinke and (pictured) and Ron Fuller Senior put on 50 stable ford points.

Sunday saw Round 2 of the Summer Inter-District Scott Fuller Shield played under sweltering conditions at Temora. It was 42 degrees in the water bag, but the way golfers are, this was little deterrent when a title is on the line and Harden is just in front on the leaderboard. Our Club threw 12 pairs into the fray which helped us immensely with travel bonus in the final wash up. A big thank you to all who travelled and braved the tough and arduous conditions. On the day, our wily foxes who picked up the goodies at Harden, have done it again for the Club.

Ron Fuller Snr and Peter Steinke have shown a clean set of heels for both Harden and for best score of the day with a very well formed 50 stableford points. Runners Up for Harden with 47 points were Tim Davis and Craig Henman, whilst third place were Dan McGrath and Tom Poole with 46 points. These leading scores were fantastic results on such a tough day and went a long way to lifting our Club average for the top 8 scores to 45.00. When we add the travel bonus of 4 x 0.25 = 2.0 pts, Harden topped the day with 47 points. The home team of Temora were expected to show us all how it was done, yet they could only muster 43.625 average, whilst Tumut were again crippled by lack of travel support in their team, being penalised to finish with 33.14 for the day. Temora Captain Barry Flakelar was also very complimentary of their sponsor for the day Temora Truck and Tractors who continue to assist their fielding of this Summer Inter-District event.

After 2 rounds the Pool A pointscore is Harden – 93.38, Temora – 84.5 and Tumut – 64.31. Prior to teeing off and after Round 1 only, the leaders in pool B were 0.6 points ahead of Harden, however the overwhelming difference was the massive travel bonus Cootamundra took out of their Gundagai round to get to this. By comparison, Harden achieved its round 1 score at home with no travel bonus. At the time of writing Pool B scores had not been distributed. Baldry Claims Saturday Stableford Did I mention it was hot this weekend? Well this again did not stop the locals in the latest round of the Summer Championships. The Club stableford contested on Saturday saw 14 brave locals face the starter.

The scoring was almost as hot as the weather, where in a tough school you would need to play at least 3 better than your handicap to even get a mention in the ball comp. Ouch. Michael Baldry has done just enough to pip out the perpetual bridesmaid Darrell Cassidy who has come runner up at least 4 times in the last 2 months. Both platers played 5 better than their handicap for 41 points, with Michael bringing his back 9 home one point better to claim the goodies. Balls went to Darrell (41 pts), Tim Beveridge (40 pts), Tom Poole (39 pts) and Herby Manwaring (39 pts). The shot of the day was on the Bendigo Bank Hole in One hole where on Kerr has put a fantastic shot into 150mm. Wow, that is only 6 inches in the old speak and must have had the boy’s hearts racing watching that from the tee. Heycox Eclipses Midweek Field Greg Heycox has come from the clouds to gain the mantle as head burglar this week in the 12 hole, 24 stableford point competition. Greg has shot 10 better than his handicap to record 34 stableford points and beat his nearest competitor by a whopping 4 points. Greg claimed the bikkies, and saluted the handicapper then dismissed 10 whole shots – BANG.

Greg now resumes next week on a still generous handicap of 22. Runner up this week is the evergreen Bob Martin who had a lovely round of 30 points, whilst tied for 3rd were Peter Steinke and Mike McPake on 29 points. Bob Martin claimed the ball lottery this week.
