Ronnie Page on Fire in Summer Stableford

Our man about town and all-round wag, Ronnie Page has sown that he is fresh up after a spell like a champion race horse.  A bit of time off, some social rounds in Albury and generally just a big dose of relaxation have all combined to see Ron take out this week’s round of Stableford Golf in the 2017-2018 Summer Championships.

Ron has pulled out an effortless 42 points to annihilate the field and even Ron could tell you there were a few left out there as well.  This was a round where Ron was quoted on course as saying “I am just out here to make up the numbers and have some fun with my mates”.  Warning bells were ringing across the course when Ron is in this frame of mind.  Ron had a round that was 6 shots better than his handicap and was 3 points better than the next best in the field.  This saw Ron pick up the Harden Country Club trophy provided on the day.

Tied for second and leading off the ball competition were Tam Kennedy and Darrell Cassidy who both shot very respectable 39 point rounds, or 3 better than their handicaps.  Also collecting balls were Peter Steinke and Ron who had a tidy 37 points each, but in playing with the exuberant Mr Page, were outclassed on the day.

The Bendigo Bank Hole in One did not go off but it was seriously threatened on Saturday.  John Brownhill, in what his playing partners claimed was almost a shank, twanged one in the general direction of the green and it came to a stop a mere 75cm from the pin.  This is the closest for some time and were the greens in September double rolled and cut short mode, who knows …………

David James Blitzes Midweekers.

Just as Ron Page gave the Saturday boys a dose of the Larry Doo, so too did David James with the midweek crew.  David has shot a very tidy 32 stableford points around the 24 point, 12 hole format, to record a round 8 shots better than his handicap.  Great round David !

In so doing, the midweek handicapper has savaged poor David’s Handicap by taking all 8 off it under the modified Galloway handicapping system.  David will now resume this week on a mere deductible of 8.5.

Bob martin and Mike McPake took out 2nd place honours each with a handsome round themselves of 30 points or 6 better than their handicap.  It’s a tough school when you play this well and do not win the goodies.  Only 1 point back again, Marg Taylor, Grahame Taylor (both rounds) and Mike McPake from his Wednesday effort all shot 29 point rounds.  Marg also claimed the golf ball lucky card draw.

The Midweek Comp is heating up with some wicked scoring being seen by good parts of the field each week.  A note from the organisers not to forget that the tariff has risen by 1$ and players should have $8 on them when collecting their cards for play.

CLAIM THE DATES

Next Saturday will see a Club Stableford, whilst on Sunday is the 2nd round of Scott Fuller Shield.  Play is in Temora with attendance required before 9.30 for registration and payment and then a 10am shotgun on course.  Remember that we are winning comfortably after round 1 but this round will dictate how big our margin is going into round 3.  Travel points are a must so we need a big field at this round to cement a lead Temora cannot jump over at Tumut in February.

On Sunday 18 February we are hosting the Holden Scramble at Harden.  Get your teams of 4 together now and ring into the Club (6386 2483) to get them on the starting sheet.  Lets make the first Scramble of the year the most successful for 2018 in the South West Slopes Golf District.

See you out there.
