Jaiden Ings’ winning Operation Art piece.

Every year schools across New South Wales are invited to participate in Operation Art, an initiative of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in association with the New South Wales Department of Education.  Research has shown that an optimistic outlook reflected in art can help improve a child’s well-being and play a vital part in the recovery and healing process.

This year Binalong Public School submitted four works with outstanding results. Jaiden Ings’ (Year 1) artwork won the Junior Prize of the major ANSTO Award. Jaiden was selected out of 800 entrants for this prestigious prize. His artwork will become part of the permanent collection at Westmead Children’s Hospital after it finishes touring the regional NSW galleries, starting with the National Gallery of Australia.

What an achievement for 6 year old. Ella Saunders’ (Year 2) and Alerya Bradshaw’s (Year 4) artworks were chosen for the Artbank collection to be exhibited through regional hospitals and become a part of their permanent collection. and Georgie Ings’ artwork was awarded the Bandage Bear’s Paw Pick award for artistic excellence.

What a talented bunch of creative kids there are at Binalong Public School. This is such a tremendous achievement by the students and the BPS community wish to extend a very special thank you to Mrs Lucy Saunders who worked with the students during Term 1 to complete their Operation Art entries. Mrs Saunders has helped to inspire creativity and develop artistic techniques for all of her students.
