Murrumburrah High School’s Driver Training Program has been operating for over 32 years with the assistance of local businesses. Monday saw Sibelco donate $1500 to join the Bendigo Bank as the major sponsors of the venture. The donation is contributing to the purchase of a new car for students to learn to drive in 2017, as well as magnetic stickers for the vehicle and other ongoing costs associated with the program. Kevin Doyle, Regional Operations Manager at Sibelco’s Galong plant said, “At Sibelco we place great value on education and supporting rural communities and we’re proud to be supporting a program which not only equips students with an invaluable skill, but emphasises the importance  of road safety and safe driving behaviour.” The program has been teaching local teenagers to drive for a generation. School Captain Jane Fitzgerald said, “Murrumburrah High is a great small school and it’s a fantastic program. It’s a great way for students to accumulate their driving hours and to have lessons in the manual car.” The MHS Driver Training program is coordinated by Ms Ward and Mr Baird, who are also both licensed driving instructors. The course teaches safe driving habits such as being responsible for the safety of other drivers on the road including friends, family members and the wider community. The program is available to Murrumburrah High School students who are 16 years of age or older.
