Heywood Racing travelled to the Parkes on Sunday May 21 and took with him Imperious and Leucura. Imperious claimed a second placing in the benchmark 65 1300 metre Handicap whilst Leucura took out the Parkes Services Club Parkes Cup over 1600 metres.

The $30,000 race meant the owners of the 6 year old gelding picked up around $16,800 for their horses efforts.

Chris ‘Fonz’ Heywood said, “Leucura deserved to win that race, he has been knocking on the door with 3 2nd placings over that distance. He’s now had 4 starts at a mile for a win and 3 2nds.”

Leucura is called Bluey around the stables as he has the odd feature of one rather striking blue eye.

He came to the stable as a two year old; however, he wasn’t raced until he was 3, giving him time to mature and has now won over 1000 metres to 1600 metres.

Heywood is looking to find a race in town for him and he seems to relish the mile distance.

Leucura now boasts a collection of $118,845 for his 4 years on the track, very impressive.
