Hilltops Council is nearing completion of its assessment of the proposed ‘Eulie Piggery’ development with an Extraordinary Meeting of Council likely to take place on 12 July 2017 for a final determination to be made on the Development Application.

General Manager Anthony McMahon explained that while responses from state-based agencies regarding the development prevent Council from consenting to the project, Council still has an obligation to undertake an assessment of the proposal.

“The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) and the Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) have both advised Council they will not provide General Terms of Approval (GTA) for the proposal,” Mr McMahon said.

“Fundamentally, what this means is that Council has no choice but to refuse the application, however Council is still required by legislation to undertake a full planning assessment.

“The assessment will consider all factors, in addition to those relevant to the state agencies,” he said.

Mr McMahon said a public forum will be held at the Harden Mechanics Institute on Tuesday 11 July 2017, commencing at 10am.

“Members of the public will have the opportunity to present their views on the proposed development to the Council’s Administrator prior to the report on the proposed development being considered the following day,” Mr McMahon said.

Those wishing to attend the forum to present their views are required to register with Council by 4:30pm on 7 July 2017. Registrations can either be made by emailing mail@hilltops.nsw.gov.au or phoning (02) 6386 0100.

Those wishing to attend are advised that speaking opportunities will be limited to 5 minutes per person.
