If Patrick Smith doesn’t have a nickname on the footy field yet, he will soon. One suggestion could be the ‘Exterminator’. Smith playing from Hooker for the young Hawks was brutal in defence and if he continues to play like this, the spectators will be very appreciative.

The Hawks were too good for the North Canberra Bears with Will Quinn leading the way from Prop. Ryan Daley has proven that he is not only a super fish in the pool but a super goal kicker with a cool head. Daley played well in the Centres for the Hawks and was backed up by Oscar Forsyth who sat a couple of defenders on their backsides with his strong fend, hip and shoulder.

Patrick  Smith after scoring a great individual try on Saturday.

Big Bad Bustling Zac Pirie had the claret flowing from the forehead and backed Quinn up at the front. Sam Davis was everywhere at Fullback as was Jack Hinds in the Second Row, his defensive prowess didn’t go unnoticed. The Hawks went into the half time break up 18-0. Captain Will Stanley led the way with a great individual try after slicing through and beating 3 defenders.

Things weren’t looking good for the Bears who let a kick off go dead. In the ensuing play Smith scored a great try and looked like he was covered in spiders as the Bears failed to bring him down.

The Hawks let in a late try to finish up 28-10, however, the season is looking like it will be very positive for the young Hawkies who will only get better from here. Trys for Harden went to: Stanley, Pirie, Smith, Veness and Davis, whilst Daley slotted four conversions only missing one attempt.

The lads will take on Crookwell at Harden at 12:30 today.
