Over 920 entries were received for the 2015 Jugiong Annual Campdraft, with the event taking place last week from the 1st to the 3rd of April.

Including the finals, 1,100 runs were made at the event, with over $18,000 in prize money up for grabs.

The sport of camp drafting originates from stock mustering. In a campdrafting competition, a rider on horseback must “cut out” one beast from the mob of cattle in the yard or the “camp” and block and turn the beast at least two or three times to prove to the judge that they have the beast under control; then take it out of the yard and through a course around pegs involving right and left hand turns in a figure eight, before guiding it through two pegs known as “the gate”.

The ‘reasonably popular’ event has a considerable impact on the Jugiong community, with money raised going back into the community. “The event helps to contribute to the town,” said Peter Wallis of the Jugiong Campdrafting Committee . “The reason we do it is to keep this town beautiful.” The event has contributed in the past to the building of the fence at the park at Jugiong.

The Committee would like to thank Romani Pastoral Company, Hopewood Pastoral Company, the Willsowen family at Widgeongully, Thompsons Rural Supplies and Tegra.
