The new Principal of Murrumburrah High School John McFadyen is looking forward to a positive start to the year, with many initiatives and events planned for the school throughout 2015. Mr McFadyen is looking to make Murrumburrah High School the place to go, and with 35 years of teaching experience behind him, he believes it is certainly possible.

Mr McFadyen started his teaching career in 1979. He said “I am a Maths teacher first and foremost.” He taught at Kooringal High School from 1986, and teaching as a Head Maths teacher in 1995. He began teaching at Colleambally from 2001, becoming Deputy Principal in 2004 going on to be principal for the next ten years.

McFadyen hopes to further the school’s strong reputation for agricultural excellence, extolling the role of agriculture at the school for student enrichment. The school’s ‘Farm Club’ plays a prominent role in his efforts. “The Farm club allows older kids to teach the younger ones about respect and responsibility,” said Mr McFadyen.

He also emphasised sport’s role in fostering teamwork and strengthening discipline. In addition to agriculture and sport, culture will take centre stage, with an Aboriginal language day to take place in the coming weeks, “to benefit all of our students and aboriginal culture,” With over 300 words beginning with ‘ng’ in the Wiradjuri language alone, the students of Murrumburrah High School will be in for an experience.

Mr McFadyen says that all the effort of the staff of Murrumburrah High School will be towards the learning and welfare of the students. “Our teachers know the students and they will be going that extra mile for them,” he said. “Learning is the number 1 priority at Murrumburrah High School, and I want to make it the school to go to.”
