Mario Bonaccordo of Pepe’s Ducks says he is very happy with the progress of the duck farm at Cunningar.

He joked that the recent rain has been very good for the town and the local farming community, but not so good for shed construction. He said they have now fully erected 4 sheds on the property.

Mario said that the manager’s residence has also commenced construction and that 1 of the 4 sheds has been fully fitted out. Another 8 shed sites are currently having work done on their pad areas in anticipation of construction.

He made comment on the support of the local Hotels in housing the shed builders and the excavation crews and said that they were also receiving a lot of community support and enquiries regarding positions on the farm.

At this stage he said “we are not at the point where we will be undertaking large scale recruitment just yet, but information will be made available when the time comes”.

Mario made a point of the sheer size of the construction process at Cunningar however all 27 sheds will not have to be built before the first ducks can arrive. He said it is planned that ducks will arrive on the site at the end of this year.

The $14 million dollar project will be a boost for the town after the recent announcements of Foodworks, the Harden Butchery and the Harden Medical Centre closures over the past two weeks.
