Local MP, Katrina Hodgkinson, said that students from 10 schools in the Burrinjuck electorate are seeing the results of more than $457,000 worth of maintenance expenditure that was started or completed during the school holidays just passed.

“To minimise disruption to education the NSW Government seeks to do as much maintenance as possible during school holidays,” Katrina said. “Even though some of these projects may be only small in scope they will all make a big difference to improving facilities and maintaining school pride.”

Katrina said the projects started or completed during the Term One holidays include:

  • A lift for Cowra Public School’s library to improve disability access for $305,000.
  • Murrumburrah High School is having floor coverings replaced, painting undertaken and shelving installed for $29,357
  • Murrumburrah Public School is having similar work undertaken to the value of $22,633.
  • EA Southee Public School in Cootamundra is having carpet installed and internal painting carried out for $22,122.
  • Boorowa Central School is having planned maintenance to the value of $12,800 undertaken.
  • Gundaroo Primary School is having carpentry work undertaken to the value of $12,000.
  • Stockinbingal Public School is having building and roof repairs undertaken for $5,085.
  • Wombat Public School is having $4,348 worth of paving, painting and roofing work undertaken.
  • Monteagle Public School is receiving new floor coverings and paving worth $4,234.

“The NSW Government has committed more than $2.4 billion to school infrastructure and maintenance over the past three years,” Katrina said. “There has been $320 million dedicated annually to school maintenance, a 23% increase from the previous Government’s last budget. “We are also delivering projects more efficiently. We have introduced an industry-standard method of delivery for the Department’s capital works program, creating savings estimated at $8 million – $10 million every year.

“By working smarter we are delivering more facilities to NSW schools,” Katrina said.
